Message from The National Director

Dear Esteemed Friends and Partners of GHAFES,

Grace and peace of GOD to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you for visiting the GHAFES website. We are eternally grateful for your continued support as we seek to challenge Students and Associates to have an on-going commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and to develop basic discipline for Christian living and service.

As we journey through this ministry year, we are excited to reflect on our annual theme: “Thriving Disciples Committed to Scripture”, drawn from Philippians 2:12-16. This powerful call reminds us of the need to live out our faith with deep reverence and unwavering obedience, holding fast to the Word of Life and shining as lights in a dark and twisted world.

This theme is anchored in our 5-Year Strategic Plan, “Thriving Together: GHAFES Ministry from 2023–2027”, that outlines a clear and compelling ministry direction grounded in our raison d’être—the core purpose—of GHAFES: to witness to Christ and disciple students and Associates across Ghana’s tertiary institutions.

In light of this, I invite all our cherished stakeholders—students, associates, staff, friends and other partners—to journey with us in three strategic ways:

  1. Pray with us. Uphold GHAFES in prayer as we continue to focus on four strategic pillars:
    • Thriving in Witness – Empowering students and Associates to boldly share the gospel on campus and beyond.
    • Thriving in Whole-Life Discipleship – Nurturing communities marked by Christlikeness, compassion, and integrity.
    • Thriving in Leadership Development & Mentorship – Equipping the next generation to lead like Christ in every sphere of life.
    • Thriving on New Grounds & Strengthening the Associates Ministry and Weak LCFs – Pioneering new fellowships, revitalizing weak LCFs, and fortifying the Associates Ministry.
  2. Participate with us. We challenge you to actively support this mission by volunteering your time and expertise. Whether as an Associate Staff, a Mentor, or a Resource Person, your contribution will help shape a generation of transformational leaders deeply rooted in Scripture and godly character.
  3. Partner with us through giving. Your generous financial support enables us to make a lasting impact in Ghana’s tertiary institutions—raising a movement of thriving disciples who will influence the marketplace, church, academia, and society at large.

Thank you for standing with GHAFES. Let us continue to labor together for God’s glory and the flourishing of student ministry in our generation.

In His service,
Isaac Mensah-Newton

A Missionary Visit to Sao Tomé and Príncipe for the Inauguration of the GBU (Students Ministry)

Breathtaking beaches of São Tomé and Príncipe — a stunning reflection of God's magnificent handiwork. His beauty is written in every wave, every breeze, every horizon. To God be the glory!

GBU (Students Ministry), Sao Tomé and Príncipe Inaugurated

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven…”

These timeless words from Ecclesiastes 3:1 are a powerful reminder of life’s rhythms and God’s perfect timing. I was privileged to witness a significant moment in this divine rhythm — the inauguration of the IFES movement in São Tomé and Príncipe, which took place on April 26, 2025.

The journey of students’ ministry on this small island, nestled at the heart of the Gulf of Guinea, began in 2019. And now, by God’s grace, it has seen the light of day. I had the honor and privilege of joining Zelalem Abebe, IFES-EPSA Regional Secretary, and Lawrence Gomez, Associate Regional Secretary for West Africa, at the official inauguration of GBU São Tomé and Príncipe. It was humbling speaking at the inauguration on the topic, “Impact of Students Ministry in Ghana: Transforming Lives, Shaping the Nation.”

Please pray for the new Board, the student leaders, and the Church in São Tomé — that they will faithfully nurture these beginnings and that student ministry will thrive on this island.

To God be all the glory!
